Miss Norma Faye Hood Is Bride Of Thomas Gray Timberlake May 6 At Union Chapel Baptist Church on May 6, Miss Norma Faye Hood became the bride of Thomas Gray Timberlake. The Rev. George Stallings officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert G. Hood of Zebulon, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Timberlake, also of Zebulon. Music was presented by Mrs. Harold Green, pianist, and Mrs. Connie Mac Bunn, soloist. The bride and groom entered the church together. She wore a street-length dress of white Chan tilly lace over taffeta. Her shoul der-length veil was attached to a bandeau of lace. She carried a Bible topped with an orchid. Ushers were Elton Massey of Zebulon, brother-in-law of the bride, and Lawrence Perry of Zebulon, cousin of the bridegroom. The mother of the bride wore a blue brocade taffeta dress. The mother of the bridegroom wore a pink brocade taffeta dress. Each wore a white carnation corsage. A reception was given by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Fred Hood, and aunt of the bridegroom, Mrs. Lu ther Perry, immediately following the ceremony, in the church annex. Mrs. Bonnie Perry and Mrs. Lu ther Perry poured punch and pre sided over the wedding cake. Wednesday P. M. Club Meets With Mrs. Ben Thomas Mrs. Ben Thomas was hostess to the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club recently at her home on Church Street. Decorations of multi-colored iris were used in the playing room. Club members present were Mrs. W. C. Campen, Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs. Helen Gregory, Mrs. L. M. Massey, Mrs. Fred Page and Miss Mary L. Palmer. Guests were Mrs. L. E. Long, Mrs. A. S. Hinton, Mrs. Fred Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth Ellett, Mrs. Luke Kitahata and Miss Edna Longest. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Page, club high; Mrs. Massey, club low; Mrs. Ellett, guest high and Miss Longest, guest low. On arrival the hostess served pink frozen fruit salad on lettuce, ham sandwiches, nuts, pickle and coffee. Cone to Stay Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Deans of Raleigh announce the birth of a son, Richard Wallace, May 4 at Rex Hospital. Mrs. Deans is the former Willa Bolton of Zebulon. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bunn an nounce the birth of a son, Gregory Larry, on May 3, at Louistourg Me morial Hospital. Mrs. Bunn is the former Margaret Carlyle. Legion Auxiliary Meets With Mrs. Foster Lewis The American Legion Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Friday night, May 5, in the home of Mrs. Foster Lewis. Seven members were present. The meeting was called to order by the vice president, Mrs. Lew is. Prayer was led by Mrs. Gilford Bufkin, in the absence of the chaplain. The highlight of the business was the election of officers for the coming year. Mrs. Melvin Lanier | was elected to serve her second | term as president. Mrs. M. G. j Crowder will serve as vice presi j dent; Mrs. Bill Perry, secretary; Mrs. Pat Farmer, treasurer; Mrs. Bufkin, sergeant at arms, and his torian; and Mrs. Charles W. Pace, chaplain. Poppy chairman for the 1961 Poppy Day were named. They are Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Bufkin. Mrs. Lewis takes the rehabili tation a >d child welfare chair man’s job, and Mrs. Bufkin will continue as publicity chairman. During the social hour, Mrs. Pat sy Pott of Raleigh, sister of Mrs. Lewis, showed the group some very interesting slides of her and hei husband’s travels and of their former home in Connecticut. Af ter the serving of refreshments, the group adjourned until the June meeting. Critically Sick DeVan Barbour, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Bar bour, is in critical condition at Duke Hospital. Jean Glover and Candace Tongue Tourney Winners Jean Glover and Candace Tongue were winners of the 27 Hole Medal Play Spring Tourna ment held last week at Lakeside Golf Course in Wendell. They won trophies for their expert play. The trophies were awarded by Mary Frances Batten at the an nual stockholders’ supper and business meeting May 3. Playing in the tournament with the winners were Nan Herndon, Rubell Perkins, Susan Birch, Jackie Ammons, Maiy Charlotte Roberts, Mary Frances Batten, Dot Thomas, and Margaret Thomas. Jean Glover, president of the Ladies’ Golf Association, presided over a short business meeting im mediately after presentation of the awards. The nominating committee re port was made by Mary C. Rob erts, and the following officers for the coming year weTe named: Mrs. Ben Thomas of Zebulon, president; Mrs. Bill C. Roberts, vice president; Mrs. Ben Tongue, secretary; and Mrs. Wallie Birch, treasurer. Five new members were wel comed into the club. They are Mrs. Bill Griffin, Mrs. Philip Whit ley, Mrs. Jimmie Scarboro, Mrs. Marvin Pleasants, and Mrs. June Byrd. Mrs. Wallace Temple Has Friendly Nine Mrs. Wallace Temple was host ess to the Friendly Nine Bridge Club last Friday night at her home on Arendell Avenue. Arrange ments of iris were used for deco rations. Club members present were Mrs. Norman Screws, Mrs. Raleigh Al ford, Mrs. Armstrong Cannady, Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs. Wil son Braswell, Mrs. Ruth Cham blee, Mrs. Eldred Rountree and Miss Ruby Dawson. Prizes were awarded to Miss Dawson, high, and Mrs. Screws, low. A dessert course complimented with cookies, nuts and coffee was served. Mrs. Bobby Sherron Hostess at Bridge Mrs. Bobby Sherron was hostess to the Bid-M Bridge Club last week at her home on Franklin Street. Arrangements of spirea and purple and white iris were used for decoration. Members whisting were Mrs. | James Alford, Mrs. Alvin Beck, I Mrs. John Hicks, Mrs. M. L. Hag ! wood, Mrs. Crafton Hudson and j Mrs. Jack Liles. Mrs. Charles Alexander and Mrs. Bill Bowling were guests. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Hicks, club high; Mrs. Alford, i club low; and Mis. Alexander, | guest high. Refreshments were graham cracker cream pie, ham salad puffs, toasted pecans and iced tea. Cokes and chocolate candy was available during play. PERSONALS Mrs. L. R. Temple has returned from Greensboro after spending a week with her daughters and their families, Mrs. Frank Cooper and Mrs. Charles Cimerro. • Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Glover of Durham have been spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Rodney McNabb and family. The Glovers are formerly of Zebulon. * Mrs. C. V. Whitley will spend Mother’s Day with her mother, Mrs. M. V. Fleming, of Boonville. It will be the first time in five years Mrs. Whitley has spent the holiday with her mother. • Mrs. Ray Funderburk of Arling ton, Va., spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Moser. They also had a surprise visit from their son, Earl H. Moser, Jr., of Oxnard, Calif., who spent the weekend here. •. ....:mwzy.*•. .v> Miss Elaine Martha Schmidt Weds Joseph William Hilliard, Jr., April 21 The marriage of Miss Elaine Martha Schmidt and Joseph Wil liam Hilliard, Jr., was solemnized April 21 at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Md. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Schmidt of Baltimore and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard of Zebulon. The Rev. Raymond C. Meyers officiated at the double ring cere mony performed before the altar decorated with palms, cathedral tapers in seven branch candela bra and pedestal baskets of white mums, carnations, gladioli and greenery. Prior to the ceremony nuptial music was presented. The soloist sang the “Twenty-third Psalm,” and the “Lord’s Prayer” as the benediction. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street-length gown of Chantilly lace over mist satin with a scalloped nickline. The fitted bodice was outlined with pearls around the neckline. Her long sleeves came to points over the hand. The veil of imported illusion was attached to a fitted cap with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and lily of the valley and showered with satin streamers. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. John E. Turner, as matron of honor and Miss Patricia Ann Flanagan, as maid of honor. They wore identical dresses of pink silk organza and carried nose gays of pink carnations. Bridesmaids were Miss Barbara Elizabeth Schmidt, sister of the bride, and Miss Suzanne Carolyn Hilliard, sister of the bridegroom. Their dresses and bouquets were similar to the matron and maid of honor’s. The father of the bridegroom was his best man. Ushers were Robert Adair, Richard King and Thomas Lewis. The mother of the bride chose a beige lace over blue with match ing accessories for her daughter’s wedding. Mrs. Hilliard was gown ed in an orchid lace over taffeta sheath with matching accessories. Each wore a corsage of white gar denias. The bride is a graduate of Tow son (Md.) High School and Tow son Business College. She was employed with the State of Mary land Bureau of Internal Revenue. The bridegroom is a graduate of Towson High School and attended Baltimore Junior College until le joined the Army. He is stationed at Columbus, Ohio. The couple honeymooned in Washington, D. C. Immediately following the wed ding the parents of the bride en tertained at a reception for the bridal couple, the wedding party and friends at their home on Lyn dan Rioad, Timonium, Towson. Relatives of the bridegroom at tending from North Carolina were his uncle, Roy Hilliard and Mrs. Hilliard of Durham, and his aunt, Miss Beulah Hilliard of Middlesex. Entre Nous Group Is Entertained Recently Members of the Entre Nous Bridge Club and guests were en tertained recently by Mrs. Doris Privette. Arrangements of aza leas, spirea, iris, pine and tulips were used for decoration. Club members present were: Mrs. Vance Brown, Mrs. Wallace Temple, Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs- L, E. Long, Mrs. Fred Smith and Mrs. Ferd Davis. Coming as guests were Mrs. Lois Wall, Mrs. Elizabeth Ellett, Mrs. L. M. Massey, Mrs. Marie Webb, Mrs. A. S. Hinton and Mrs. Wilson Grimes. Club high score prize went to Mrs. Chamblee, with low going to Mrs. Temple. Mrs. Webb was re cipient of guest high. Congealed salad, barbecued po tato chips, cheese-olive puffs and coffee were served by the hostess to the members and guests on ar rival. Surprise Birthday Dinner Given Man Family and friends were guests at a surprise birthday dinner given recently for O. B. Ellington. Pres ent were Aunt Eva Wall, Snook Ellington, Wiley, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hinton and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hinton and son, Mr. and Mrs. C. Valton Hinton and children, Mrs. Edith Richaidson and chil dren, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hinton and boys, Mr. and Mrs. DelmaT Earl Cates and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hales and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hinton and daughters, Blonnie and Doodie Bug Ellington, and Avon Privette.
